Scope & content
They have not received any boxes with the latest packet [ship]; the two boxes which arrived previously were in 'pretty good order', but the Orchidaceae had fermented, and many of the plants were dead; Arpophyllum spicatum, 'which you will recognise by the following sketch [enclosure not present], was nearly dead', and they hope to receive more later; they have distributed about 500 packets of seeds and bulbs, and are looking forward to distributing Hartweg's collections from Guatemala: 'once there, you will be free from all risk of your collections being detained or miscarrying'; Mr Parkinson [John Parkinson, British consul in Mexico] has offered his assistance to the Society
