They acknowledge receipt of a letter dated 30 Sep presented to them by Mr Theodor Hartweg, who arrived on 13 Nov, and continued to Miraflores [Mexico] and Mexico [Mexico City, Mexico] the following day; they will forward his collections of seeds and plants, and supply him with money from his £500 credit; they received from Hartweg two boxes of plants and a small case of seeds, which they have forwarded on a steamer, and enclose a 'bill of lading and receipt' [enclosures not present]
On the reverse is a copy of a letter dated 2 Jan 1845 [sic; 1846], Vera Cruz. They have received two cases from Hartweg, and shipped them by a steamer; they last heard from Hartweg on 21 Dec; 'this country is in a complete state of revolution'. Annotated in a different hand in the margin: '5$7Rs'
On the third page is an undated statement that they have heard from a courier arrived from Mexico that the garrison there had 'pronounced in favour of General Paredes [Mariano Paredes staged a coup d'etat in January 1846 and was declared the president of Mexico], so that the revolution may be considered at an end'
