He acknowledges the receipt of the tin case, which arrived on Friday morning; he just received the letter of 10 Jan: 'otherwise I would have gone to Moorgate and obtained an order for the cases on undertaking to pay the freight whatever it may be fixed at', having made no arrangement regarding the fees with Captain Chappell [Edward Chappell, secretary of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company]; 'I think if you take the measurement as well as the weight, there will be no reason to retain the boxes – we are most anxious to have them. You may safely trust to my holding you entirely harmless from all loss or blame on the subject'
