They have reached Quelimane on the Zambeezi [Zambezi River, Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique] and will continue tomorrow for Senna [Sena, Mozambique]; Quelimane is 12 miles from the mouth of the most northerly branch of the river; they will travel in boats for two days, then walk for two days, then join the boats again and proceed to Tette [Tete, Mozambique], 120 leagues [360 miles] away; as they have to walk, with their baggage carried 'on men's backs', he will not be able to take much paper with him, but hopes to be able to take enough for preserving specimens; he wants to create a collection of the mountainous vegetation in particular; they are receiving assistance from the Portuguese governor in Quelimane and the governor in Sena; Sena is 'said to be very unhealthy', but they intend to stay at Tette for the duration of the rainy season
