Scope & content
Black and white engraved plate depicting Tehidy Park in Cornwall. The building of a new mansion house was commenced by John Pendarves Basset in 1734, and in 1739 Frances Basset took possession. The house was destroyed by fire in 1919, but had been rebuilt by 1922. Cornwall County Council bought the estate in 1983 and it has since become Tehidy Country Park. The house can be seen in the background of the engraving with cattle grazing under trees in the foreground. The book plate bears the imprints 'Published as the Act directs, Sepr. 1st. 1781, by W.Watts, Chelsea' and 'W. Watts delint. et sculpt'. From the book 'The seats of the nobility and gentry' by William Watts
