Black and white engraved plate depicting Chilham Castle in Kent. Thomas Heron bought Chilham in 1774 and transformed the house and park, refitting the house in the Georgian style and enlarging and redesigning the grounds under the guidance of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The house and 'The Keep', part of the medieval fortress, can be seen in the engraving, with figures strolling in the grounds. The book plate bears the imprints 'Publish'd as the Act directs April 1st.. 1785, by W.Watts, Chelsea' and 'W. Watts, del: et sc:'.
