Scope & content
Black and white engraved plate depicting High Cliff House in Dorset. The house can be seen overlooking the sea, with ships sailing nearby and figures in the grounds, which run down towards the sea. The gardens were landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. All that remains of the original High Cliff are the two entrance lodges and some of the garden walls. A new house was erected on the estate between 1831-1835 [Highcliffe Castle]. The book plate bears the imprints 'Publish'd as the Act directs Nov 1st. 1784 by W.Watts, Chelsea', 'Callander, del' and 'W. Watts, Sculp'.
