Black and white engraved plate depicting 'Garrick's Villa' [Hampton House], Richmond Upon Thames. The house was leased and then bought by David Garrick (actor and theatre manager) in 1754, who made it his country home. Garrick added a temple with a statue of William Shakespeare. Lancelot 'Capability' Brown advised on the landscaping of the gardens. The engraving illustrates the house and temple with a river, boats and figures strolling along the bank. The book plate bears the imprints 'Publish'd as the Act directs Nov. 1st. 1784, by W.Watts, Chelsea' and 'W. Watts, del. et Sculp'.
