Black and white engraved plate depicting Claremont House near Esher, Surrey. Robert Clive, 1st. Baron Clive commissioned Lancelot 'Capability' Brown to build a new house, demolishing the one previously on the site. Brown took on his future son-in-law to help with the commission and John Soane (later Sir John Soane) worked on the project as a draftsman and junior designer. As of 2022, the house is used by Claremont Fan Court School and its gardens are managed by the National Trust. The book plate bears the imprints 'Published as the Act directs April 1st. 1779, by W.Watts, Kemp's Row, Chelsea', 'G. Barrett R.A. pinxt' and 'W. Watts sculp'.
