Scope & content
Black and white engraved plate depicting Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. Built by Robert Cecil, Lord High Treasurer under James I and the younger son of William Cecil, 1st. Baron Burghley. The gardens date from the early 17th century. Deer and a figure leading a cart can be seen in the foreground of the engraving, with the house and chapel in the background. The book plate bears the imprints 'Publish'd as the Act directs June 1st. 1783 by W.Watts, Chelsea' and 'W. Watts del: et Sculp'. From the book 'The seats of the nobility and gentry' by William Watts
