Written from 36 Kensington Square, [London] W. Manuscript
Robinson’s invitation is delightful with memories of the past and pleasant pictures, incidents and conversations to come; but Lushington’s health which has been good for over 75 years, has broken down this year; he has suffered from facial neuritis or Bell’s palsy, and is crippled by arthritis, the malady Robinson used to denounce as brought us upon by our own vices and those of our forefathers; otherwise he is quite well except his hearing is impaired; he is going to Llandrindod Wells, Wales, in the vain hope of improving; so he is not able to go touring with Robinson which would have been a great pleasure; he urges Robinson to go with ‘another mate’ and tell him about it afterwards
