William Robinson (1838-1935) was an Irish gardener. He moved to England to work with British native flowers at the Botanical Gardens of Regent's Park, London. Charles Darwin and James Veitch were both sponsors for his joining the Linnean Society. He was a pioneer of the English Cottage Garden. and his influential books 'The Wild Garden' and 'The English Flower Garden' put forward his ideas on borders and natural gardening which he practiced at his home Gravetye Manor in Sussex.
