Wet stamp on verso, 'The Royal Horticultural Society'. George Fergusson Wilson (1822-1902) was a chemist. He owned the Prices Patent Candle Company, at the time the biggest candle manufacturer in the world. He was a member of the RHS Council, and Treasurer of the RHS. He bought Oakwood (now RHS Garden Wisley) in 1879, and after his death, Oakwood and the adjoining Glebe Farm were bought by Sir Thomas Hanbury and presented to the RHS.
