Jean Sisley (1804-1891) was a nurseryman born in Holland in 1804, and later became naturalised as a citizen of France. He spent most of his life in Lyons, where he was one of the founders of the Cercle d'Horticulture de Lyon. He ran a nursery, and bred various kinds of flowering plants, from cannas to pelargoniums, but was probably most famous for his work with roses..
