A Clematis 'Bill MacKenzie' can be seen on the left-hand side. Ink inscription on sleeve on recto: 'David Scott & Clematis 'Bill Mackenzie'; 'Valerie Finnis'; 'Dower H'. Pencil on recto: '413'. Full name: Sir David John Montagu Douglas Scott. This dog is likely Kate, the last pug David owned. Valerie Finnis married David Scott in 1970 and moved into his home, the Dower House, part of Boughton House and one of the seats of the Duke of Buccleuch. Finnis lived at the Dower House after Sir David's death in 1986 until her own death in 2006
