Charlotte Corday (1768-1793) was a figure from the French Revolution, who assassinated Jean-Paul Marat in 1793. Fig 'd' is dedicated to Wieland [Christoph Martin Wieland (1733-1813)] a popular German poet. Fig 'e' is described as a monument to 'Englischen Arztes Howard'. John Howard (1726-1790) was born in London and is remembered as an early English prison reformer. The book plate bears the imprint 'Hullmann sc: Leipzig'. Hefte 3. Plate 2 of 10.
