Mr Charles Dorrien wishes to have some dried plants from China collected by Mr Fortune [Robert Fortune]; he is asking Dr Lindley to tell Fortune that these should be 'chiefly ferns' with notes on the growing environment; he assumes the price to be the same as for Mr Hartweg's plants [Karl Theodor Hartweg, Horticultural Society plant collector, who travelled primarily in Mexico; for the papers of Hartweg, 1836-1848, see RHS/Col/7], £1 for 100; 'Mr Dorrien is anxious to have ferns, as he is making a collection of that class of plants'
