He found the epiphyte he was so anxious to find, on his excursion to the Guichole [Huichol] Indians, with six other kinds and seeds of two species of Vaccinium, two of Gaultheria, one Pyrola, one of the new garryas, one Juniperus, Littsea gemminiflora [Litsea gemelliflora, identification unresolved as at Oct 2018] and a few kinds of cacti; among the cacti there are some varieties of the small white one he described in an earlier letter; on his return he learned that Mr Floresi [Damian Florezi, director of the Bolanos mines], for whom he had letters of introduction, had returned from Zacatecas [Mexico]; he was received 'very kindly' and offered assistance; Floresi said he should have been there during the rainy season, when he would have greatly increased his collections; he will leave Bolanos when he has been told of the exact time of the convoy leaving Zacatecas [Mexico] for Tampico [Mexico] with which he will send the plants and seeds he has collected; he has received a letter from Messrs Byrns Hooton & Co [merchants in Mexico] informing him that they have drawn upon the treasurer of the Society for $777, $770 being the amount he has received; he attaches a copy of this month's expenses
Hartweg's accounts for 17 Nov-16 Dec 1837 comprise 'monthly allowance' $50, 'wages of the mozo [servant]' $18 and 'a guide' $5. Written from Bolanos [Mexico]
