Scope & content
The last packet [ship] to arrive did not bring any of the boxes they have been long expecting; he is enclosing a copy of the letter received from their agents in Falmouth in response to their enquiries, but he feels there is 'some misstatement' regarding the real reason for the boxes having been detained: 'we shall be much obliged if you will yourselves favour us with the true reason, for the cases are so valuable, and their contents are so very likely to be destroyed by the delay'; in the future, boxes should be sent on any available ship if the captains of HM packets refuse them; he encloses a copy of 'Messrs Broads' [William Broad & Sons, merchants in Falmouth] letter to Dr L. [John Lindley] dated July 21'
