The Council have authorised Mr Hartweg [Theodor Hartweg] to proceed to Guatemala due to the detention of his collections at Tampico [Mexico], and the 'unsafe state of the country' around Valladolid [Morelia, Mexico]; it is hoped that 'the disappointments which have attended his two years' sojourn in the former country may be in some degree compensated by a more ready communication with this country by way of Belize'; he requests assistance for Hartweg regarding Guatemala and the journey there, 'although it is said his wants in that district cannot be many'; dispatches to Hartweg are forwarded through the Foreign Office to their care, and they should forward them to Hartweg
