Written from British Consulate, Tampico [Mexico]
He acknowledges receipt of a letter dated that morning; application was made to all commanders of the packets [ships], but due to the 'excessive size' of the boxes held by Jolly & Baker, and to the quantity of passengers' baggage and their treasure rooms filled with 'specie [valuable cargo]', it was not possible to accommodate the packages [from Theodor Hartweg]; they should be sent by some other means, especially now as almost all the ships are crowded with passengers and cochineal [cochineal insects, used for producing carmine dye]
