In response to an enquiry by the Horticultural Society for sending a 'person' to Vera Cruz [Veracruz, Mexico], the Montezuma will sail on 25 Sep and the captain will take 'no less than £40', including everything except bedding; with only two berths available, an immediate decision is required; Messrs Wm & Jas Tyrer [William and James Tyrer, ship brokers in Liverpool], brokers of the vessel, wrote to the Society with the above terms, but did not receive a response; there will not be another opportunity for travelling for another month or six weeks, and it is doubtful passage can be obtained for less than £40
