Scope & content
The eight boxes brought home on the 'Penguin' by Lieutenant Luce [captain of the Penguin] have arrived safely; although a 'considerable quantity' of the plants had perished, the losses were fewer than expected, thanks to the 'excellence of the packing' and the care with which they had been kept in the warehouses; the Council wishes to thank them for their attention and the trouble, and any expenses will be paid by Messrs Byrns & Co [merchants]
Annotated 'Mr Bentham wrote to Mr Hartweg on the same day to acknowledge the receipt of the boxes'
