Annotated in pencil on top of the first page: '2 Mr Hugo Finck's [American farmer and botanist in Mexico; Finck sometimes sent specimens to the Horticultural Society, and someone may have thought the correspondence related to him instead of Theodor Hartweg] 2 cases'
He acknowledges receipt of a letter dated 12 Jan; cases HS1-2 were dispatched on Saturday, and should have reached Edgar yesterday; he has received instructions from the secretary to charge the usual freight on the cases, and he encloses a note relating to the freight
Enclosed invoice, dated 13 Jan 1846, for freight for the Horticultural Society from the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company for £1 10s 8d, for two cases of plants measuring 8 feet 4 inches by 3 feet 6 inches, sent from Vera Cruz [Veracruz, Mexico] on the Tweed ('Parsons [George Parsons, captain of HMS Tweed]')
