He is grateful for the naming of the Pinus after him, but it differs considerably from that genus and should be separated from it; they should ask Mr Brown [Robert Brown, botanist in London], 'for no one else can say what the fructification is'
[Pinus douglasii [Pseudotsuga menziesii, Douglas fir] was named after Douglas by David Don [botanist and librarian of the Linnean Society], at the suggestion of Joseph Sabine]
