Written from 9 Kensington Park Gardens, London W. Manuscript
He thanks Robinson for his paper on the government [‘Civil War and Party Lawyers’, 1914]; he agrees with it and sympathises but is not sure it is wise to refuse to pay taxes levied by authority of Parliament, however unjust they may be; he hopes Robinson’s actions will not land him in trouble; he believes and hopes that the present government will go to pieces on the Ulster Rock; he was at Kew [Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew] on Saturday and it was lovely; Robinson’s garden must also be beautiful; nature is a consolation for many rough messes in life
Dated 24 Apr, no year [1914; Robinson’s pamphlet ‘Civil War and Party Lawyers’ was published in 1914; he refused to pay National Insurance contributions for some employees and was summonsed for non-payment in Feb 1914. See ‘William Robinson 1838-1935’ / by Mea Allan]
