Scope & content
Written from Shelford, Cambridgeshire. Manuscript
He gratefully accepts Maw’s offer of distribution; he agrees that one man ought to act as secretary and handle all communications; he thinks the Palestinians would like Harpur-Crewe [Henry Harpur Crewe, rector of Drayton Beauchamp, Buckinghamshire], who is also less busy than he is, but he will do it if need be; Harpur-Crewe has some general directions which he will send to Maw for criticism, and Foster will then have printed; he will obtain copies of figures from L. Reeve [L. Reeve and Co, publisher]; if by then Maw can supply full directions for transmission of the plants, and for the diggers, they will be given to Besant [Walter Besant, secretary to the Palestine Exploration Fund]; he will write to Tristram [Henry Baker Tristram, who made frequent visits to Palestine] for hints; he has established Iris lacustris; he has Iris subbiflora from Lisbon [Portugal] but would like an authentic specimen from Maw, as he has doubts about his. Dated 18 Feb, year illegible [1882; the subject matter matches letters written in 1882]
