He is glad Maw has returned safely from his trip and for the box he sent; he will do his best with the Narcissus viridiflora bulbs; he is very pleased with the Iris tingitana supply; he envies the freedom Maw has to travel; directly after Maw left, an expedition of the Palestine Exploration Fund went to make a survey of the Gulf of Akaba [Aqaba, Jordan]; he has written to Hull [Professor Edward Hull, geologist], the head of the expedition, as he does not know the botanist, H. Hart [Henry Chichester Hart], and asked him to send any irises to him and everything else to Maw; the people of the Palestine Exploration Fund have so far not been very promising; he hopes to see Maw when he comes to town; he offers Maw a plant of Iris kemaonensis from Kumaon Valley [Uttarakhand, India], with fleshy roots like an Alstroemeria, which appears identical to Iris nepalensis and needs a frame to keep it dry in winter
