Scott Wilson [Scott Barchard Wilson], son of G.F. Wilson [George Fergusson Wilson, creator of the garden at Wisley], heads to the south of Portugal on Monday, and if Maw wants anything from there he should send a letter to Weybridge [Wilson’s home]; he had thought of going to the Sierra Nevada [Spain] at Easter but has obligations at the Royal Society so cannot; he potted two of the Iris tingitana bulbs from Portugal and kept them in the greenhouse, and they will flower in a few days; they are completely distinct from Iris filifolia, which is an analogue of Iris xiphium, but are analogous to Iris xiphioides [Iris latifolia] in foliage and bud; Harpur-Crewe’s [Henry Harpur Crewe, rector of Drayton Beauchamp, Buckinghamshire] corbularias, collected with Maw, are flowering nicely; he hopes that Maw will attend the Narcissus Conference. Dated 22 Mar, no year [1884; the Narcissus Conference was held in 1884]
