Maw is indefatigable and deserves every success; the writing on the three labels sent by post was excellent; he suggests some small changes in the style of the text; one label arrived broken; he sends a complete list of their asters named by Professor A. Gray [Asa Gray, American botanist] during a visit; the Aster bed is very good for a trial, and he can give Maw most of the species; he is sending a hamper of plants to Maw tomorrow, though workers omitted the Russian specimens due to scrappiness, and did not ask him what to replace them with; he has told them to send them at once, and invites Maw to visit in spring to select specimens; the label without a shank that arrived today is a good one for mounting in an iron frame, which Mr Smith [John Smith, curator at Kew] is seeing to
