He will look out for such a man but fears he will be unsuccessful; any cultivator of alpines who will also travel on the continent to collect can do better for himself than to work in a garden; he asks if the writer of the enclosed letters [enclosures not present] might be suitable, and if so suggests Maw send him to Kew to work under Duncan [unidentified] if Smith [John Smith, curator at Kew] approves it, to be trained to Maw’s requirement; he knows nothing of the man except what the two enclosed letters state, and asks that they be returned soon; Maw should write at once to Mr Wilson [William Wilson] at Warrington, using Hooker’s name if he is not acquainted with him
