He asks that Maw does not inconvenience himself, or take any step that may shorten their stay in Morocco; Maw’s geological observations will be as important as the botanical, and more widely appreciated; he would like to ‘take the wind out of the sails’ of future travellers both in geology and botany, though to be discreet, the geology must be confined to observation; he encloses a letter just received from Sir J.D. Hay [John Drummond Hay, British minister resident to Morocco] [enclosure not present]; he asks when Maw will be coming to town, as he would like to see him before buying the presents[?]; he thinks Maw has Carstensen’s [Frederick Carstensen, consul in Mogador, later Essaouira] letter; he will apply for leave when Maw has decided their date of sailing; he does not want Maw to inconvenience himself but wants to ensure they go in the correct season
