He is delighted that he may see Maw so soon; dinner will be ready at 6.30pm on Monday and he may bring any friend; Hooker will be alone; he has just been to the exhibition [the Annual International Exhibition, London] for the first time with Layard [Austen Henry Layard, envoy extraordinary to Madrid, ambassador at Constantinople], and they were hugely pleased with Maw’s pottery [Maw loaned a number of Moorish pieces from Morocco; Maw & Co also displayed their own work in Graffito ware, Persian ware, and tiles]
