The Iris arrived withered; it looks like Iris pumila; he thanks Maw for the narcissi, which he has sent to be figured by Miss Barnard [Anne Henslow Barnard, botanical artist]; they do not have Narcissus nivalis flowering; he has asked her to get replacements for any flowers which are too withered from Maw, by post; they are currently changing foremen as Goldring [William Goldring, in charge of the herbaceous ground at Kew until 1879] has gone to work with Robinson [William Robinson, editor of 'The Garden'] and left a disordered mass of potted things
