She is grateful for Maw’s Christmas present of two boxes of bulbs and his lecture on Morocco; she will return the other papers in a day or two; she is especially interested in the ‘Tour in the Levant’ [‘Journal of a Tour in the Levant’, by William Turner] as she has been there herself; she is returning Maw’s wooden packing box with blooms of Iris stylosa [Iris unguicularis] inside for him, which are unusually well developed for the time of year; she offers to send a plant of Ambrosina bassii, a small aroid which Maw said he had not seen; she has potted those sent by Durando [Gaetano Durando, Italian botanist living in Algiers, Morocco] but they need time to recover from the journey; she is grateful for Maw’s offer of plants and will request some daffodils in the summer; she finds daffodils very interesting and hopes to build a collection of the most distinct species and the best hybrids; she receives a few from Barr [Peter Barr, nurseryman] every year, and suggests sending Maw a list of those she has already so he can send any additions; she has the Tenby daffodil [Narcissus obvallaris], and looks forward to the blooming of the Chionodoxa.
