He is sorry that Maw did not call on him when he was here, and apologises for not recognising him, but attributes it to the confusion of the moment; he asks Maw to call on him the next time he visits Constantinople; the bulbs arrived safely and were planted immediately by the Embassy gardener, and he and Mrs Layard [Mary Enid Evelyn Layard] are grateful; he has been so busy that he has not thought about porcelain or potting, and is grateful for Maw’s hints on the subject; he congratulates Maw on reproducing the old Spanish style, and hopes to see his work some day
