Date
c.1879-1881
Scope & content
Written from Stillyans, Horeham Road, Hawkhurst. Manuscript
She wanted dessert or dinner plates [an accompanying sketch of a plate is drawn in the body of the letter], and Maw’s would be too much like dishes; she has found two old Leeds plates with open border, which she will try at first as she has little time to work in London; all Maw’s vegetables are doing well; Dr Hogg has just given her some bulbs of Chionodoxa luciliae, which she will plant; the weather is dull; she hopes to be in London for a short stay by next Saturday; Maw should let her know when he comes up, and should always direct mail to 45 [Charles Street]; she asks if he has seen a Salvia ‘with small purple or lilac’. Dated 16th [c.1879-1881; Nevill moved to Stillyans in 1879; other letters from her to Maw in this collection were written 1874-1881]
