He thanks Maw for obtaining signatures and arranging for his election to the Linnaean Society; he received an irate and insulting letter on Friday from Mr Barr [Peter Barr, nursery owner], to whom he offered bulbs of corbularia citrina [Narcissus corbularia citrina], but he sent them elsewhere as Barr took so long to reply and did not pay; he has considered sending Barr some Narcissus moschatus and Narcissus juncifolius [Narcissus jonquilla] as a present but is unsure following his ‘rabid’ letter; he has not received the hybrid bulbs or flowers and is worried it is too late in the year; he will happily send information on habitat and such; he sees that Maw asked him to give ten francs to Jean, but Jean ended up keeping the change anyway; he found the hybrids at the back of the Hospice [L’Hospice de France], growing sparsely, close to Narcissus poeticus in preference, and Narcissus muticus [Narcissus abscissus] as well, and also past the Shepherd’s Hut and Pic Entecade [Pic de l’Entecade, Spain]
