Full imprint statement. London: Printed by J. Dixwell, in St. Martin's Lane, Charing Cross. [Price one shilling.] M.DCC.LXXI.
The front pastedown bears a printed ticket of a circulating library - Newsell's Library - and an engraved armorial bookplate (one corner obscured by library label) of John Jennings, dated 1768 and with the motto Virtus sola nobilita. On the front free endpaper is a pencil signature: J. W. Ford, Enfield Old Park, Winchmore Hill, Middlesex. Below this is annotated in pencil, "said to have once belonged to Joseph Jacob - W.T.S". A bookseller's ticket on the rear pastedown has been largely scratched off.
The frontispiece is a folding engraved plate, cropped within the plate mark, showing within an upper rococo frame a seated figure of Britannia, attended by three figures, one of them holding a thermometer, and receiving gifts of plants from representatives of Africa, Asia, and America; a volume labelled LINNÆUS SYST. lies to one side; figures of Time and Truth recline amid clouds at upper left, seen against part of the zodiac; part of a garden including a large greenhouse appears at rear. Below, in a lower rococo frame, are greenhouse elevations.
