He has received Maw’s kind note, review, and Uriconium [?an article Maw wrote on mosaic pavements at the Uriconium Roman settlement in Wroxeter]; Maw’s criticisms are written fairly and kindly, and he will consider all the points without discussion; he thinks it is a pity to mingle science and religion but sees that Maw has done so from conscience; he did not write on the case of man, due to its difficulty, and believes that it will follow that of animals whenever his views are rejected or admitted, which will take years; his opponents would have lost nothing had they written as fairly as Maw has done
