He received Sabine's letter on the 9th and is happy to hear everything is going well with the Horticultural Society; he thanks Sabine for the two books sent; his instructions requested that he send a duplicate of the preceding letter, but the previous one was sent 'so very recently, I think it scarce requisite to write a duplicate'; he hopes Sabine will receive the letter and the plants sent by HCS Bombay; he has sent lists of the plants on the different ships, with notes about how they were collected; he sent a case by HCS Bombay on 18 Nov, six cases and 16 plants without a case by HCS General Kyd on 26 Nov, two cases by HCS Royal George on 27 Nov, two cases by HCS Kent and two cases by HCS Waterloo on 5 Dec; he is hoping to bring 13 or more cases himself, but Captain Baker [Thomas Baker, captain of HCS Lowther Castle] 'seems fearful bringing too many', and will take no more than 10 or 12; Sabine had been told that Captain Wilson [J.P. Wilson, captain of HCS Hythe] would take pots without cases, but having passengers on board unexpectedly, they have had to put the plants in cases: 'he seems very kind, and said although he could not take them as proposed he would take any number of cases'; if he manages to bring 13 cases, there will be 10 or 11 more to send by other ships; they will probably not sail until late January; he has been healthy
